Pogose School established at Dhaka in 1848 as the first private school of the country by N P Pogose, an Armenian merchant and zamindar. It was at first housed in the ground floor of Pogose's residence and was known as Pogose Anglo-Vernacular School. In 1855, it was moved from there to a rented house owned by JC Panioty of Armanitola. Five years later it was moved to a two-storied building at sadarghat, from where it was finally shifted to its present location at Chittaranjan Avenue.

Khulna University is situated at Gollamari, by the river Moyuree, beside the Khulna-Satkhira highway. It is one of the divisional public universities of Bangladesh. Khulna university has 16 disciplines under five school.
The university came into being in 1987 in the name of University of Khulna; and the Khulna University Act was passed in the Bangladesh National Parliament in July 1990.

Rajshahi College established in 1873 with the financial assistance of Raja Haralal Roy Bahadur of Dubalhati. Raja Haranath Roy donated land for the establishment of the college and the annual income from the property was five thousand rupees. Within a short period after establishment, the college became one of the main centres of higher education for the inhabitants of East Bengal, North Bengal, Bihar, Purnia and Assam. The FA (First Arts) classes of the college started on 1 April 1873 at the premises of the Rajshahi Zilla School (later Rajshahi Collegiate School).

M C College Murari Chand College of sylhet was initially a school established by Murari Chand, the grandson of Zamindar Girish Chandra Roy of Roynagar, Sylhet. It was made a college on 27 June 1892 with 4 teachers and 18 students. In 1897, the original college building collapsed in a devastating earthquake, of which Raja Girish Chandra himself was a victim. Though he survived the quakes, the calamity made him financially vulnerable.

Rangpur Pubic Library the oldest cultural institution of the district, was founded in 1832 by the Kundi zamindars. Rajmohan Roychowdhury (1786-1847) donated funds to meet the full cost of its establishment. Later, Ramani Mohan Roychowdhury (1860-87) of Tushbhander and Mahima Ranjan Roychowdhury (1852-1909) of Kakina became patrons of the library. It collected and preserved a large number of books, manuscripts, puthis, inscriptions and archaeological relics.

Holy Cross Girls' High School founded at Tejgaon, Dhaka in 1950 by the Society of the Congregation of Sisters of the Holy Cross of the Roman Catholic Church. It started as a kindergarten with only two children to attend classes. But by January 1952, a large number of parents registered their children and the kindergarten was converted to a primary school. In October 1953, it was made a high school, which complete shape in 1955.

Jessore Zilla School one of the oldest schools of the greater jessore district. It was established on 3 February 1838 and named Jessore Zilla School in 1872. Though the school was established under a government order, it was founded originally with donations from local people. On 27 January 1845, the wife of the zamindar of Naldi Pargana made an annual grant of Tk 300 for running the school.
